Argh, first of all, let me just express my hatred and frustration with the blog template. Some people make it look so simple: "Oh, just simply cut and paste the html of the desired template into your template settings and voila...." No! There was no "Voila!", but there was a "Damn...what the hell?" and a "What the frick?". That basically summed up my reaction, the first four thousand times I tried to implement this template. And still, some things are still screwed with it: as you might have noticed that my archive currently reads "$BlogArchiveName$ - value". Er...if anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know because I'm in dire and desperate need of help with this thing.
Next things on my mind: I am so damn sleepy. It definitely isn't healthy to study chemistry (VSEPR theory...who what what?) until around 5-6 in the morning. I started to lose track of things around 4 something, drifting in and out of consciousness. Reminds me of the time I had to finish that magazine assignment for Writer's Craft: Here is the editorial from it: Laugh with me, if you will:
The time has come again for “Oscar buzz”. When heaven and hell meet to form the tension between competing filmmakers and studios. No longer is a movie just a movie. During the Oscar season, it’s also a “film”; the work of an artist.
Fall and winter gives people the chance to start anew. This theory applies to trees, but also to the movie industry. If your movie didn’t do too well during the summer, it doesn’t really matter, because getting nominated for, or even winning an Oscar, makes up for most of the wrong-doing done earlier in the year.
But ask me, and I’ll tell you something different. The main reason why most movies that seem Oscar-worthy are released nearer to the deadline is because studio executives believe that most Academy voters won’t remember their movie if it’s released any earlier. I guess it is partly true, that the Academy is made up of “old fogies” who don’t know the difference between good and bad, because we don’t need to be reminded of “Titanic”, do we? In any case, the voters seem to be inching around the corner as each year passes by. After all, both Halle Berry and Denzel Washington both won last year as a testament to the power of African-Americans in a Caucasian-run industry. So why not show good quality movies (or “films”) all year round?
In this month’s issue, we’ve given a full calendar of all the movies coming out in November and December. Plus, for each movie, we have a brief synopsis, and our film critics have put together a scaling system as to which releases have the greatest chance of winning an Oscar. We’ve also ensured that we mention a worthwhile independent
film for every studio film that is released.
Of course, that’s not all we’ve got this month. Jimmy Fallon of Saturday Night Live gives a great interview on page 53, and we’ve also got another excellent piece on the history of hip hop and rap. You’ll probably be amused as you read about the most unlikely people breaking sales records in the hip-hop/rap industry.
Also, don’t forget our regular sections, which always give great trend-setting tips with which to decorate your lifestyle.
What the HELL was I babbling about? The best line that I have ever written: Fall and winter gives people the chance to start anew. This theory applies to trees, but also to the movie industry. Right, Emily. Whatever. But I guess it was vast improvement over what I had before that: I don't recall it much since I believe that I actually found another world between sleep and awake, but there was something about a shopping cart, clouds and rain. Go figure.
Tomorrow's Good Friday, meaning no school, but also meaning work from 11-4. Why is White Rose open on a holiday? A holiday when most other places are closed like they're supposed to be? Anyway, I guess I don't really mind because I do get paid time and a half. More money equals more happiness, especially when I can use money to buy all my A.I. paraphrenalia. (For those of you who don't know, I'm talking about A.I. as in American Idol, not Artificial Intelligence - the Spielberg film...)
So it's almost 12:30 AM right now, and I'm just about to work on the delegate manual for SAPNA (South Asians Providing New Aspirations), a leadership conference that Vin's running. Well technically, that Inspire's running, but since she's the director of Inspire...she's running it. So I must go along now to find my articles about media and the portrayal of South Asians...
Are you a high school student in the GTA? Let me know if you want to attend SAPNA... :D
